Bring Still Photos to Life with AI
Have you ever wanted to turn a simple photo into a cinematic video? With today’s AI tools, you can transform a single image into a dynamic, realistic scene — no film crew required. In this walkthrough, I’ll show how I used Adobe Firefly, Topaz Video AI, and Final Cut Pro to turn a static picture of an antique tractor into a stunning winter video.
Step 1: Start with a Clean Image
The project began with a single photo. To prepare it, I opened the image in Photoshop, removed unwanted details (like a garden hose and a pile of brush) using the AI Remove Tool, and expanded the frame to a vertical 9:16 aspect ratio using AI Generative Fill.
This made it look as if the image had originally been captured for vertical video — perfect for social platforms like YouTube Shorts or Reels.
Step 2: Animate the Scene in Adobe Firefly
Next, I uploaded the edited image to Adobe Firefly’s Text-to-Video tool.
Using the following AI prompt, I generated the base animation:
“Using the reference image, keep the antique tractor exactly as it is, sitting still in place. The camera is locked down and does not move. A heavy snowstorm begins with thick snowflakes falling quickly, wind blowing snow across the frame in strong gusts. The tractor slowly becomes covered with snow as it piles up on the seat, hood, and wheels. The ground around the tractor also becomes blanketed in snow, turning white as the storm continues. Realistic and cinematic winter storm atmosphere, cold gray lighting, dramatic but natural look.”
Within minutes, Firefly produced a short but convincing snow-filled video.
Step 3: Adjust the Speed with Topaz Video AI
The snow looked good — but it fell too fast. To slow it down smoothly, I used Topaz Video AI to increase the frame rate from 24 to 120 fps.
After exporting, I brought the clip into Final Cut Pro and reduced the playback speed to 40%, creating a softer, more natural snowfall.
Step 4: The Final Result
The finished video captures the still tractor gradually being buried in snow — a peaceful, cinematic winter scene built entirely from one photograph.
